Deadlines are increasing

The leader of the St. Petersburg branch of the RNDS headed by Mikhail Kasyanov, Andrei Pivovarov, was arrested for 14 days. This decision was made by the magistrate court of judicial district 203. Pivovarov was found guilty of organizing an unauthorized rally near Gostiny Dvor on August 31 and disobeying the legal demands of the police. In addition to the arrest, Kasyanov’s associate was sentenced to a fine of two thousand rubles.

According to Kasyanov’s adviser Elena Dikun, “this is an unprecedented story; never before has anyone been imprisoned for such a term for participating in rallies.” It should be noted that in recent weeks, organizers of actions that the authorities do not like have begun to be arrested, attributing to them resistance to the police, which often did not take place. Thus, the leader of the movement “For Human Rights” Lev Ponomarev was sentenced to three days of arrest for an unauthorized march on Flag Day on August 25 (although he did not take part in the march), and then to four days of arrest for organizing an unauthorized rally “Day of Wrath” on August 12 and resistance to the police, which he did not offer.

On September 15, from 2 to 6 p.m., opposite the temporary detention center on Zakharyevskaya Street, building 6, where Pivovarov is being held, a series of single pickets by opposition representatives will take place. The action will be attended by activists of the RNDS, the People's Democratic Youth Union, Solidarity, Defense, Yabloko, as well as the National Bolsheviks.
