What took the CPSU 8 years to achieve, United Russia has achieved this year – it now has a million members, writes The Washington Times. More than two-thirds of the country's federal and regional parliamentarians and 70 of the 89 regional governors are members of United Russia. Party functionaries say that the popularity of their party is a victory for democracy; people know who to vote for. And only vile liberals can think that membership in United Russia only symbolizes proximity to the feeding trough, as in the glorious times of the CPSU.
