Hugo Chavez, the much-loved Russian president, has long been known for his violent temper. But this time he seems to have outdone himself: he called President Bush a “nonentity” and the American leadership as a whole a “mafia of murderers.” His remarks about Condoleezza Rice simply cannot be repeated in polite society. But these are all emotions to which, in principle, you don’t have to react. But the threat to ask Iran to develop a nuclear program for Venezuela cannot be ignored.
