Student Vsevolod Ostapov, accused of attacking a policeman, despite the fact that he and his comrades were brutally beaten by policemen at the station, was sentenced to a year of probation. The court found him guilty of resisting police officers, believing the policeman that Ostapov had sprayed him with a gas canister and hit him in the groin. And this despite the fact that none of Ostapov’s comrades confirmed this, but they were all unanimous in the fact that they were roughly detained and brutally beaten at the Sokolniki police station on April 4, 2008.
Ostapov's lawyer Evgeny Chernousov said that the verdict will be appealed.
Let us note that the case of beating young people in the police department was closed, according to the wording, “for lack of evidence of a crime.” However, after the intervention of the head of the Investigative Committee under the prosecutor's office, Alexander Bastrykin, the investigation was resumed.
