Vyacheslav Surkov decided to warn Russians about the horrors that the rise of xenophobia and nationalism could entail. He said this in an interview in the Expert newspaper. The conclusions, however, are striking: “charlatans preaching ethnic seclusion” want to evict Russians from Russia (these are, apparently, participants in the “Russian March”), and xenophobia is the result of the development of democracy. If we look at history, we can immediately see that outbreaks of nationalism occur solely due to the flourishing of democracy. Especially in Nazi Germany.
