A group of Russian human rights activists filed a complaint about the violation of the right to freedom of assembly in Russia to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberger. Human rights activists ask the commissioner to raise before the Council of Europe the question “about the systematic nature of violations of the right to freedom of rallies and assembly in the Russian Federation, about police actions against the opposition and about the appointment of a PACE special rapporteur on this topic.” The reason for writing the appeal was the “March of Dissent”, which took place in St. Petersburg on March 3.
