In connection with the statements of V.V. Posner about M.B. Khodorkovsky was reminded of a historical anecdote about Nicholas II, of whom I am generally not a fan.
But it's witty and appropriate for the occasion.
So: a certain man, getting drunk in a tavern, spat on the portrait of Nicholas and received a real sentence for insulting His Imperial Majesty. The information, as they would say today, reached Nicholas himself, who imposed a resolution:
1. From now on, my portraits will not be hung in taverns.
2. Release the sentenced person from punishment.
3. Tell him that I don’t care about him either.
Khodorkovsky, of course, will not say so rudely. He’s not Vladimir Vladimirovich - he doesn’t feel like a king...
