The leader of the Union of Right Forces (SPS) party Nikita Belykh and the party's lawyer Vadim Prokhorov filed on Thursday with the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation an application to cancel the results of the elections of deputies to the Russian State Duma, held on December 2, 2007. “The filing of this application was caused by unprecedented pressure on the party from law enforcement agencies during the election campaign - with the inaction of election commissions,” the party’s press release says.
The Union of Right Forces claims that “under various pretexts, with gross violation of procedural norms, about 40 million units of printed propaganda materials of the Union of Right Forces were confiscated, and the seizure of about 32 million of them was recognized as illegal court decisions that entered into legal force.” “The party believes,” the message notes, “that as a result of interference on the part of government bodies and officials - and, above all, internal affairs bodies, who illegally used suppressive power functions and pressure from administrative resources under various pretexts, real campaigning activities were completely paralyzed party, which led to the impossibility of conducting a full-fledged election campaign - in the absence of conditions ensuring the free expression of the will of voters. In the current conditions, it is impossible to identify the actual will of voters," SPS emphasizes.
The results of the parliamentary elections in the Supreme Court on June 3 have already been challenged by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Initially, it was assumed that the complaint about the cancellation of the elections would be filed jointly by the Union of Right Forces, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Yabloko.
