In the village of Svetlogorye, Pozharsky District, Primorsky Territory, for seven months now, since September, the village-forming enterprise “Russian Tungsten”, which employs approximately three hundred of the thousand local residents, has been idle. Interfax, citing one of the members of the Russian Tungsten trade union, reports that for seven months workers have not received wages and are starving, children eat only potatoes, adults eat potato peelings.
Almost all residents of Svetlogorye are planning to go to a rally, demanding to pay off months of salary arrears and organize free meals for children. Local stores no longer lend people food. Local officials, who, as we know, are not known for their great love for rallies not organized from above, promise to send riot police. Meanwhile, rumors are circulating around the city that Russian Tungsten may be liquidated and all employees fired.
Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Primorye Galina Medvedeva told Echo of Moscow that the region has long known about the problems of Svetlogorye, but so far nothing has been done.
