On October 18, the deadline for re-registration of foreign non-governmental organizations expires in Russia. Out of several hundred NGOs, 91 organizations successfully completed the procedure; the documents of 79 are under consideration. True, we are assured that the “deadline” does not mean anything and everyone who wishes will be able to re-register later. The head of the Russian branch of Amnesty International, Sergei Nikitin, compared the law on NGOs to a total check of passports. Only if they are now looking for Georgians in the metro, then in the case of NGOs, Americans are held in high esteem.
