Fear to dream, dreams sometimes come true. Those who claimed that over the past few years have not had any foreign policy achievements, but more and more failures have been shared. Russia has just won a major diplomatic victory. Judging by the press reports, the American administration will soon announce the freezing of plans for the deployment of elements of the global missile defense system (pro) in Poland and the Czech Republic for an indefinite time (or even refusal). The prospects for creating the so -called third positional region in the immediate vicinity of the Russian borders were the main splinter in the relations of Moscow and Washington in the past few years.

All these years, Russian leaders at each intersection shouted that the appearance of ten American interceptor missiles is a terrible threat to our country. The United States attempts to explain that ten interceptors can hardly threaten a strategic balance, since now Moscow has about three thousand warheads (and it will be at least one and a half thousand), came across a wall of demonstrative misunderstanding. Moscow stated that the third positional district could be the first swallow of an aggressive program, as a result of which Russia will be surrounded by hundreds of anti -missiles. Moreover, such an exotic argument was also used: insidious Americans can quietly install nuclear warheads on interceptors and turn their medium -range missiles aimed at Moscow. Experts attempts to explain that this is impossible to do in secret, that the tests are needed - were not taken into account.

And then happiness happened. The Americans decided to abandon the deployment of the pro in the form in which it annoyed Moscow. Only now it would be interesting to find out if they drink champagne in offices on Smolenskaya Square and on Arbat. Or quietly swearing treacherous pindos, who managed to throw the ball to our side.

Zhupel about, which was extracted at the right time, allowed to without much effort to demonstrate to the Russian people that they want to surround us. He allowed not to think about any constructive program of strategic cooperation. Let, they say, the Americans from about first refuse. And it happened, they refused.

What will happen in the coming weeks and months, one way or another, will demonstrate the true goals of our policy. Obama’s decision opens the way to rapid advance in several directions at once. First of all, on obviously leaking negotiations under a new agreement on strategic offensive weapons. Russia can now, having retained a face, make concessions and according to the so -called reciprocal potential (the United States would like to count only those nuclear warheads that are already deployed on missiles, and withdraw from the general standings that are in warehouses). It would be possible to develop more flexible rules on the offset of carriers.

In addition, Moscow could support possible sanctions against Iran, who has not yet wanted to abandon its nuclear program. True, in this case it is not clear how to relate to a recent statement by Vladimir Putin that such sanctions are counterproductive and Russia does not support them.

However, another option is possible: we will invent a new reason to be offended by the United States. After all, the United States obviously will not refuse about in principle (the Americans have two positional areas - in Alaska and in California). Its architecture will simply change. Rumor, for example, about making it the main element, ships equipped with Izhis system and standard-3 crossbreeps. Why not declare in this case the threat of the inevitable concentration of the US fleet “near our borders”. You can demand a complete refusal of the pro. You can demand the closure of American bases in Bulgaria and Romania. A lot of things can be invented, there would be a desire.

Be that as it may, a major diplomatic victory deprives Moscow that it considered an important foreign policy trump card.
