On the eve of the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine in circles engaged in inciting enmity between two neighboring countries, the feeling of a holiday is growing. Here, Viktor Fedorovich Yanukovych will win - and an end to the adversaries will come! Well, if Julia Vladimirovna Tymoshenko wins, it doesn’t matter either, because Vladimir Vladimirovich recognized her treaty. The main thing is that very soon he will not be, Russophobe and a banderophil, a supercharger and an insult, who gained only five percent of the votes of the disappointed population. This, of course, the dislike of Russia so spoiled the rating to Viktor Andreevich, what else?
And indeed, what else happens except Russia? I remembered how, after the loss of Jimmy Carter in the US presidential election, the Kiev taxi driver, having seen enough of the Time program, joyfully commented on: "I spoiled the Carter of the Olympiad career." It was not the guy and the guy that the US President was not at all for the United States did not send athletes to the Olympic Games in the Soviet Union burning Afghans, but for not seeing Brezhnev, which was engaged in the cannibal manners. The guy could not even imagine that the heir to Carter was becoming a man who was not going to retreat before the Empire of Evil, and the verdict of this evil was sentenced by history, an American voter, ourselves. But, in the end, Russian politicians and experts should be even a little more far -sighted.
Why do they not like Yushchenko in Moscow? For giving the hero Stepan Bandera? For flying in Tbilisi? For admiring the hetman Mazepa? Yes, not at all! Yushchenko is his own person who violated the rules of the game. Yushchenko is a politician who doubted that democracy is when the future president of the country is appointed a narrow circle of political accidents, and only then is approved by a joyful voter.
The Russians know the charm of this democracy, they live with it. But the Ukrainians did not know her! They always had the possibility of real choice-in 1991, and in 1994, and in 1999. Yes, even in 1999, when President Kuchma was elected for a second term, we witnessed a serious political struggle. But in 2004, this struggle should not have been, because in Moscow they suddenly decided that only one democracy was possible - managed, and the second would not be. And Yushchenko did not agree with this out of great dislike for Russia, but because he wanted to become president - a completely reasonable desire for a politician.
The desire to participate in the elections, counting on the support of voters, in the end, is as natural as the desire to ask the hands of her beloved girl, counting on her reciprocity, and not on the sober decision of her elderly parents. Yes, such a marriage is also possible, sometimes even stable, but always unhappy.
Ultimately, Yushchenko’s victory, with all the contradictions of that difficult period, once again demonstrated that citizens have the right to choose from their own opinion - and at the same time they can change this opinion depending on the real qualities of the politician. Because in real democracy, a citizen has the right to divorce instead of eternal vegetation under a boring portrait, to which one can, in the form of a great exception, can be weighed another. That is why now the favorite of the Ukrainian elections is Viktor Yanukovych, and Viktor Yushchenko is an outsider. And in the place of Russian politicians, I would not be very happy about this.
