The Arctic Sea cargo ship with a crew of 15 Russians, which mysteriously disappeared on July 28 near the Portuguese coast, was discovered on the night of August 18 in the Cape Verde region. Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov reported to President Dmitry Medvedev that eight people, citizens of Estonia, Latvia and Russia, who were not members of the crew, were found on board the Arctic Sea. They were taken into custody as suspects in the seizure of the ship by the sailors of the anti-submarine ship "Ladny" of the Black Sea Fleet. The crew is safe and sound. A criminal case has been opened.
