The Council of Europe called on all countries to abolish prosecution of journalists for defamation. This is such a tricky thing - “dissemination of defamatory information”, and this information may be true. In fact, the old law is a horror story for journalists, because it is very difficult to prove your innocence, the wording is painfully vague. But in Russia they don’t want to repeal the law. Lyubov Sliska, in particular, believes that society is “not ready” because it is full of “orders”, and only when journalists become crystal honest will it be possible to change something.
