On May 30, Irena Stefanovna Lesnevskaya, academician of the Academy of Russian Television, publisher of The New Times magazine, celebrates her anniversary. In 2005, Lesnevskaya was awarded the TEFI award in the category “For personal contribution to the development of Russian television.” Irena Stefanovna is truly a person whose personal contribution to the development of not only Russian television, but also all Russian journalism cannot be overestimated.

Lesnevskaya began her journalistic career in the Literaturnaya Gazeta and the magazine Novoye Vremya (who could have imagined that less than half a century later, in the place of Novoye Vremya, a magazine would arise with a completely different, truly new, relevant and living face, and it was Lesnevskaya who would become his publisher?). Lesnevskaya has worked on television since 1965. She became the author of many programs, worked in the children's editorial office and the film editorial office of Central Television. Her original programs have repeatedly received diplomas “Best Program of the Month” and “Best Program of the Year.” Lesnevskaya specialized mainly in programs devoted to literature and art. Among the most famous programs on which she worked is the famous “Kinopanorama”.

In 1991, when Central Television was disbanded, Lesnevskaya, together with her son Dmitry, founded the REN-TV company. The channel of the same name began broadcasting in 1997. Before the Lesnevskys left in 2005 (Irena Stefanovna served as president, Dmitry Anatolyevich as general director), REN-TV was considered a truly independent television channel, a place without censorship.

In 2007, the REN Media Group, of which Lesnevskaya is a co-owner and president, bought the magazine “Novoe Vremya” and turned it into The New Times - an independent publication that honestly and directly talks about the most diverse aspects of Russian life. From August 2007 to January 2009, Lesnevskaya not only served as publisher, but also held the position of editor-in-chief (she was then replaced by the current head of the editorial office, Evgenia Albats).

Two years ago, Irena Lesnevskaya became a Knight of the French Legion of Honor.
