Harper Lee was born in 1926 in Montrodville (Tat Alabama), in the late 1940s she studied jurisprudence at the University of Alabam, but never graduated from it. Until the end of the 1950s she worked in representatives of airlines in New York.

In 1958-1959, Harper Lee wrote the novel “Kill the Mockingbird”. He released in the summer of 1960, in 1961 he received the Pulitzer Prize, withstood many reprints (with a total circulation of more than 30 million copies), was translated into dozens of foreign languages ​​(Russian translation by Nora Gal and Raisa Oblonskaya, 1964) and became one of the main books of American literature of the 20th century.

In 1966, Harper Lee was elected to the National Council of Arts, later received a number of other honorary posts, but lived rather closed, rarely gave interviews and appeared in public.
