The Pentagon did not receive any official notification from the Russian side about the cancellation or postponement of the Torgau-2006 joint military exercises, which were supposed to take place on September 6. This was stated on Wednesday on condition of anonymity by representatives of the US defense department. The day before, the Russian Ministry of Defense unexpectedly announced that the exercises would not be held on Wednesday, choosing a rather vague wording as the reason: “unsettled issues regarding the status of American personnel.”
