Kyiv will get rid of Soviet symbols

The City Council of Kyiv decided to dismantle communist symbols from the city’s buildings and establish state symbols of Ukraine in its place.

According to Interfax , the corresponding resolution on Thursday, May 14, supported 86 deputies.

“To dismantle communist symbols on buildings and structures that relate to communal property of the territorial community of Kyiv. - says in the decision of the City Council. “To determine that the communist symbolism that is subject to dismantle includes any images of the main state emblem of the former Soviet Union“ Sickle and Hammer ”and any images of Vladimir Lenin.”

The City Council entrusted the Department of Communal Property of the Kyiv City State Administration (Kyiv City State Administration) until the day of the Constitution on June 28 conduct an inventory of buildings and structures on which there is communist symbolism and draw up a schedule for its dismantling.

Dismantling should be fully completed on Independence Day on August 24, and until March 31, 2016, at the expense of the city budget, state symbols of Ukraine should be established.
