The developers and architects of the large residential complex Avalon Chrystie Place on Manhattan will pay $ 2.2 million in the form of a fine and compensation for moral damage for the lack of ramps for wheelchair users. Such a court decision was the result of a settlement agreement between tenants of plaintiffs and developer. In addition to payments, the company will have to eliminate the shortcomings - put the ramps in Chrystie Place and and in six other complexes of Avalon.
This is the first such case of a violation of the act of fair rental of housing adopted in 1968. It provides for judicial liability for discrimination when renting housing on any basis. In 1991, the document was added to the document that owners of apartment buildings are obliged to guarantee equal conditions for access to apartments to people with disabilities. This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office of the Southern District of New York.
LCD Avalon Chrystie Place with its own infrastructure and pool is located in the elite area of Manhattan between the areas of Soho and East-Villij. There are 361 apartments in the building.
Note that the question of ramps is extremely relevant for Moscow - a couple of months ago a promotion was held in the city, within the framework of which famous people tried to move around the city in strollers. And Gleb Pavlovsky on the air of “Channel One” said after Luzhkov’s resignation that “Luzhkov hates the disabled”, since he did nothing for their good for his long period of mayor.
