We are against terror” – under such a slogan on April 25 a concert-rally of solidarity with the people of Israel was held. The event was organized by the Russian Jewish Congress and the Moscow Jewish Community.
At seven o'clock in the evening, several thousand people with Israeli flags and flags gathered near the building of the Moscow Choral Synagogue in Bolshoi Spasoglinishevsky Lane. Not all of them defended their small homeland: among those gathered there were people of various nationalities. All of them were united by one thing - the desire to repulse world terrorism.
The Russian Jewish Congress recently decided to create a committee of solidarity with the people of Israel, headed by the president of the Moscow Jewish community, Gennady Khazanov. The committee included many famous people, including Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Ginzburg and cinematographer Yuli Gusman. The committee's first step was to sign a symbolic letter of solidarity with the people of Israel.
“By the time the rally-concert began, the letter had been signed by 13,000 people,” Yevgeny Satanovsky, chairman of the Russian Jewish Congress, said in his speech to the audience. - Among them were not only Jews, but also Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars. The people of Israel are now at the forefront of the fight against international terrorism. And Russia turned out to be almost the only country in the world whose leadership is aware of how great the danger of international terrorism is and how important it is to fight this evil.
At the beginning of the rally-concert, huge monitors showed a video message from Israeli President Moshe Katsav. He thanked the leadership of the Russian Jewish Congress for organizing the rally, which is aimed at rallying people in the fight against terrorism. In addition, Katsav expressed concern about the wave of anti-Semitism that has risen around the world, and especially in Europe.
In the intervals between the performances of the officials, well-known artists and musicians cheered up the audience with their performances: Tamara Gverdtsiteli, Maxim Leonidov, Valery Syutkin, the famous Israeli KVN performer Yan Levinzon, and others. And the role of entertainer was played by Matvey Ganapolsky.
“What is happening in Israel today may happen to us tomorrow,” said Evgeny Satanovsky in his speech. “This is a war between those who build houses and those who blow them up. Between those who raise and protect their children and those who use them as cannon fodder.
Speaking after Yevgeny Satanovsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel Natan Miron agreed with the opinion of the head of the RJC and noted that "our strength is in unity, and we can only fight terrorism and hatred together."
During those couple of hours while the rally-concert was going on, another two thousand people signed a letter of solidarity. Another two thousand people said: "We are against terror!"
