26-year-old Maxim Asriyan is from Krasnodar. In 2014, he moved to St. Petersburg, graduated from a medical college at St. Petersburg State University, worked at the RAS hospital and in the first medical intensive care unit, and worked in the “Red Zone” of the North-West State Medical University. Mechnikov. Before leaving the country, he worked as a nurse in the therapeutic department of the clinic No. 14 in the Vyborg district of St. Petersburg. I met a wife - Angelica Kazakova - when they studied at doctors together. In August, the young couple left Russia and decided to stay in Georgia for a while. But a month later, Asrian returned to his homeland to see his relatives and at the same time pick up some things.
On October 7, he was going to fly out of the St. Petersburg Pulkovo airport in Sochi, then go to Krasnodar to see his grandmother and mother, and then return to Tbilisi. However, he could not register for a flight. At about five in the evening, Maxim wrote to his wife that he was detained in Pulkovo, and did not get in touch after that. “He managed to inform me that he was charged with terrorism. When the lawyer arrived in Pulkovo, she could not find him, ”added Angelica.
Asriyan was charged with part 3 tbsp. 30, part 1 of Art. 205 of the Criminal Code (attempt on a terrorist attack). According to investigators, on October 1, he intended to arrange arson of the Frunze military registration and enlistment office in St. Petersburg and for this he acquired two bottles of incendiary mixture. According to the investigation, an outfit of the Russian Guard, which frightened Asriyan, prevented him from fulfilling the plan. It is noteworthy that the detention actually did not occur at the crime scene, but only a few days later at the airport.
For two days, the lawyer Asrian Vera Ivanova could not find her client. Later he was found in the FSB management on Litein. According to the defender, Asriyan pleaded guilty to the part that he acquired a liquid for roser, reached the military registration and enlistment office, but soon realized that "his actions could harm living people." “In fact, the crime has not been brought to the end of his own free will,” the lawyer emphasized.
On October 10, the investigation came out with a petition for the conclusion of Asriyan in custody. According to the publication “Paper”, at a meeting of the Frunze District Court, the investigator motivated his demand by the fact that Asriyan “got in touch with the foreign special services”, that “instructions and a scheme for the attack” were discovered on his phone and he supposedly supported the views of the organization “Legion of Freedom of Russia” ( military unit of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed from Russian prisoners Volunteers who have gone to the side of Ukraine - approx . The investigation believes that the wife of Asriyan also “knew about the activity and intentions” of her husband to commit a crime. “There is reason to believe that [wife] shares his extremist views,” the investigator in court said.
He also said that the “instructions for the undermining and destruction of railway infrastructure” were found on the phone of Asriyan, and in the laptop they found a completed questionnaire for joining the Liberty of Russia Legion.
The defense insists that Asriyan did not send a completed questionnaire to the organization, he denies any connection with foreign special services and extremist organizations, and even more so did not prepare the attack.
The lawyer is perplexed why her principal is charged with such a difficult article as terrorism, when, on similar accusations, the case was initiated under the article “Hooliganism” or “Vandalism”.
As a result, the judge of the Frunze court, Alexander Orlov, came to the conclusion that Asriyan could escape from the country, destroy the materials in the case or otherwise prevent the investigation. The court considered the detention justified, despite the presence of serious diseases in Asriyan.

In a conversation with the New Gazeta. Europe ”the wife of Maxim said that her husband was seriously experiencing the situation in Ukraine, did not support the actions of the Russian authorities and sharply perceived the death of civilians. “We discussed the news from the very beginning from February 24. The situation in Bucha strongly touched him. I was very emotionally worried. Even then, he discussed with friends the issue of emigration, because it is not known how the situation developed further, it became worse. In principle, we planned to leave for Georgia in the summer. And it became emotionally heavier as a whole, the general political context is very pressing, ”Kazakova admitted.
To the question of what could push Maxim to such a radical step, Angelica said that there was no particular moment, she suggested that this could be connected in principle with the pressure atmosphere around: “Time goes and becomes increasingly difficult to live with these experiences.”
It is known that
Asriyan was not seen in some protests, did not speak publicly against the military operations of Russia in Ukraine, and did not conduct pages in social networks.
However, in June, he spoke with the Publishing of the St. Petersburg Diary: he said that he wanted to go to the Donbass in order to provide medical assistance to people there. “I have friends there, I understand that in the current conditions in Mariupol there is no way to get elementary medical care. And since I have skills, I am ready to help than I can. I don't care which side the patient will be. While I am flying and providing medical care, this is a patient. We take an oath. My wife and parents know about my decision, worry, but understand. I am also aware that hostilities are going on there. I am ready to fulfill my professional duty, ”a doctor told the local publication.
As his wife explained when Maxim worked at the clinic, their chiefrch proposed to go to Mariupol volunteers and provide first aid for local residents. “His colleagues offered a lot of money and many agreed. We discussed this proposal and for him was the main motivation - to help ordinary people, Ukrainians who remained in the occupied territories. He wanted to help the civilian population. After he agreed, there was no information for a long time. In principle, initially there were vague information where they will be there and in what conditions to work. After a while, when the journalists of the St. Petersburg Diary came, they told the doctors: there is a high probability that they will engage in the Russian military. Maxim did not suit this, he is not a military physician and supporter of anti -war views, so he then refused the trip, ”Angelica explained.
It is still not clear how the special services could go to Asrian. As Angelica suggested, perhaps this is due to the conflict with her mother. “She is the mayor of my hometown of Kotlas in the Arkhangelsk region. At the beginning of the war, there were clashes with her due to the fact that she supports what was happening in Ukraine. We periodically swear because of this. I do not think that she transferred something to someone, but law enforcement agencies have access to her data, and they could use this. Once Maxim had a very tough conversation with her, and after that they did not contact in any way, ”Kazakova believes.
She is also surprised why they opened a case against her husband under such a tough article. From some point, the security forces clearly decided to interpret attacks on the military enlistment offices as acts of terrorism. So, at the end of September, the deputy head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Administration of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Rear Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky said that the arson of the military enlistment offices will now be regarded as terrorist attacks. Already several defendants in similar cases tightened the charges or immediately opened the case under a terrorist article.
