“People who have thousands, millions of lives on their conscience should not rest solemnly in the center of the country - I am deeply convinced of this,” said the head of Memorial, Arseny Roginsky, in an interview with Interfax today. “After all, there is not only Lenin, but also Stalin - a man who for many years systematically destroyed his fellow citizens. And not only his own. There is also the executioner-prosecutor Vyshinsky, the prosecutor at all the main trials of the thirties, which were completely falsified, and one of the party ideologists of terror Mehlis, and the most energetic figure of terror Shkiryatov, and a lot others".
When asked whether the country was ready for the reburial of the remains near the Kremlin wall, he replied: “It is ready for the burial of Lenin. It will be even more ready after the rehabilitation of the Tsar. But as for Stalin, I don’t know.” “According to all surveys of sociologists, these are two differently directed processes - Lenin’s place in the public consciousness is decreasing, Stalin’s place is on the contrary. Almost no one understands why mummies lie in the center of the country. And Stalin - everything is more complicated here. But for me, these plots are inseparable from each other. There should be neither Lenin nor Stalin with his henchmen on Red Square. But in any case, it is necessary to create a serious commission that will conduct the necessary examinations, and, most importantly, a broad public discussion on this topic is necessary."
Roginsky also noted that in Russia there are almost no memorial plaques dedicated to the victims of political repression. “But there are streets and parks of Voroshilov. The active participation of this man in terror is a fact that does not require proof. The streets are named after the most active conductors of terror (for example, Eikhe, Postyshev, other party leaders). Mikoyan, by the way, also signed execution lists. And he went to carry out a “purge” in Armenia in 1937. There are many such names,” said the head of Memorial.
“At the same time, there are many wonderful people, victims of terror, for whom memorial plaques and monuments need to be erected, and streets named after them. So far, it turns out that in Perm the local “Memorial” is located somewhere between Bolshevistskaya and Kommunisticheskaya streets. And we all live like that ", - he said.
