The Left Front and the Public Council in support of presidential candidate Gennady Zyuganov signed an agreement on January 17 on joint actions to support the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation during the elections.

Zyuganov previously stated that if he wins the elections, he is ready to fulfill a number of protest demands, in particular, to call re-elections of parliament. Zyuganov is not ready to become a so-called technical president or a transitional president, that is, to ensure the implementation of the demands of recent protest rallies and then leave so that new elections can be held. The Left Front made a corresponding proposal to Zyuganov and the leader of A Just Russia, Sergei Mironov. Mironov spoke about his readiness to become technical president.
