In the New York Gallery of Peter Bloom, the exhibition of photographs of Chris Marker “Koreans” is held. This is a 51 picture taken by the director in the DPRK in 1957. As the marker himself wrote in his accompanying note, the photographs were taken at a time when "a formidable propaganda machine, which will soon be controlled by North Korea, has not yet gained its full revolutions." Nevertheless, as the marker notes with interest, the work was rejected on both sides of the 38th parallel: “For the north there simply were no photographs that Kim Il Saint did not appear in any way. In the south, the very fact that they were made in North Korea turned them into an instrument of communist propaganda. Thus, my photos were exhibited at the Seoul Museum, and their author is represented as a “Marxist dog”. I did not mind. Since the time of Snepa, the word “dog” has ceased to be an insult in my mirminated cats ”.
