The former head of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee under the Russian Prosecutor's Office, Dmitry Dovgy, was sentenced to nine years in prison. The jury found strong the prosecution's arguments that the defendant received a bribe in the amount of 750 million euros. The amount of the bribe naturally takes the ordinary man’s breath away. He seethes with indignation and accepts the verdict with satisfaction. Businessmen and officials shrug their shoulders - a banal story, the level of those involved is quite consistent with the size of the offering. Initiated people know: in these echelons they take even more. But be that as it may, justice seems to have triumphed, because the bribe-taker and corrupt official should be in prison. And period. When did Zheglov say that? But the problem is precisely in this very “seemingly”.
We have heard a lot about the story of the trial of a high-ranking security official. We remember that the corruption scandal did not arise out of nowhere, but surprisingly began to gain momentum after Dmitry Dovgy did not agree with his dismissal from the Investigative Committee and declared war on his former boss Alexander Bastrykin - he went to seek the truth in court. “Well, it’s clear,” we state, “there is an obvious settling of scores. While Dovgy sat quietly, no one touched him. And as soon as he bucked, there was a bribe of 750 million euros for you - they inspired, planted, stipulated..."
There is also a strange story with a traffic police inspector who detained one of the jurors, who was allegedly biased in favor of Dovgy. “Yeah! - we say. - Of course, this is not accidental. Of course, the security forces specifically did not allow her to participate in the decisive court hearing.” In addition, the defendant's lawyers claim that the jury was pressured, and all evidence in the case was falsified.
Why am I retelling well-known facts and dwelling in detail on the circumstances of this sensational case? For the sake of just one question that I am going to ask dear readers. After we were introduced in detail to all the vicissitudes of this internal corporate showdown, is the picture of what happened clear to us? So, in my opinion, it is not at all clear.
It seems that they really were settling scores with Dovgiy. Based on the recognition of this fact, we can conclude that Dovgy did not take any bribe? No, of course... Maybe he took it, maybe he didn’t take it. Maybe this story was completely falsified, or maybe it was dragged out into the world when they decided to lock him up for a long time.
I think the most important result of the story with the conviction of Dmitry Dovgiy is that the completed trial did not bring any clarity to it. For one simple reason - we still don’t trust his decision. The court could be bribed, the judge could be pressured, as well as the jury, and perhaps they were intimidated. But it is absolutely possible that all these assumptions are empty speculation, and the trial was fair and just. In other words, the Russian court is not the ultimate truth for a Russian citizen. This means that our judicial system does not fulfill its main function. That is, in modern Russia there is actually no court. One complete fiction. What, of course, cannot be said about the sentences...
