The owners and tenants of the lands around the Arkhangelskoye museum-estate near Moscow, which make up the security zone, want to remove this territory from state protection and give it up for development. According to Galina Reali, a member of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Krasnogorsk District of the Moscow Region, as quoted by Radio Liberty, it is planned to remove 600 hectares from state protection, then only the land inside the sanatorium’s bars will remain in the protected zone. According to her, companies to which businessman Viktor Vekselberg is related are interested in adjusting the security zone. He addressed a letter to the Minister of Culture with a request to recognize two local groves, Apollonova and Goryatinskaya, as unhistorical. In addition, recently, right in the protected zone, by order of the head of the district administration, almost a thousand trees were cut down. True, the prosecutor's office intervened, and now the head of administration will have to pay three times as much in return.
As Natalya Samover, coordinator of the Arkhnadzor public movement, explained to the radio station, “everyone wants to build expensive suburban real estate in green areas and next to famous estates.” Therefore, investors are trying to either simply ignore the regime of the protective zone and simply illegally cut down trees or destroy buildings, as was done in Kadashi until “an unprecedented wave of public indignation arose,” or act more intelligently, that is, adjust the protective zone, removing the necessary pieces of land from it. According to Samover, for this purpose “you can always find some unscrupulous experts.” This was done recently for the demolition of the Alekseev estate on Bakhrushin Street: the security zone “was adjusted in such a way that most of the estate was left without any protection at all.”
However, as the radio station reports, “according to some information,” Deputy Minister of Culture Andrei Busygin did not support the idea of adjusting the security zone around Arkhangelskoye.
