One of the government's goals is to create a legislative framework for the construction of mosques in France with the direct support of the state. Sarkozy believes that in this way it will be possible to reduce the influence of foreign Islamists on Muslims in France. Protestants are also not averse to being mentioned in a separate line in the law, but Catholics are skeptical about the government’s initiative. The commission should complete its work by June 2006.
