According to the Moscow mayor, known for his warm and hospitable attitude towards migrants and his tendency to demonstrate this warmth and hospitality in every possible way, the current migration legislation does not meet security requirements.

Speaking at a meeting of the Moscow government, Yuri Luzhkov said that 90 days during which a migrant has the right to stay in the city without a visa is “an unreasonably long period that needs to be reduced.” This period must be reduced to one month, the mayor said.

“What will a migrant do for 90 days in Moscow if he does not immediately find

work? It is clear that he will engage in theft, robbery or odd jobs. We don’t need this in Moscow,” Ekho Moskvy quotes Luzhkov as saying.
