Students as a force

Students of the Russian State Trade and Economic University on the evening of December 18 seized the building of their university and began an indefinite strike in response to the fact that the Ministry of Education recognized RGTEU as ineffective. Representatives of the opposition had already come to them - the coordinator of the Left Front Sergei Udaltsov, deputies from A Just Russia Dmitry Gudkov and Ilya Ponomarev, and then representatives of the ministry arrived. Officials promised to check the data, according to which RGTEU was declared ineffective. At the same time, they state that the university will be merged with one of seven others teaching in the same field, but the rights of students will not be affected. The students plan to continue the strike.
