We have been monitoring the destruction of St. Petersburg for many years - the list of destroyed houses has been kept since 1986. Just a few days before Valentina Matvienko’s appeal, we summed up the results, followed the trend of recent years and realized that the picture is terrible. That's why we published these lists.
Of course, there may be inaccuracies: dates of construction, demolition, name of the architect, etc. But overall, they certainly reflect the overall picture. Just walking around the city, you can see that most of these buildings have been demolished. We continue to insist that our authorities pay great attention to the problem of the destruction of the city. Not everything is as good as our governor wants it to be. As for Makarov’s letter itself, he fought with us against the skating rink on Palace Square and, completely independently of us, drafted his own letter and asked for help in collecting signatures. Many people signed up, including experts, architects, and activists. The fact that some have now decided to withdraw their signatures, I think, does not affect the situation in any way. Perhaps some inaccuracies were actually discovered there, but the houses were still demolished and continue to be demolished.
