The Somali Republic intends to join the pathetic list of two states that have recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. But in this way, the list will include representatives of three continents - Eurasia (Russia), North America (Nicaragua) and Africa (Somalia). The country's government's intention to establish diplomatic relations with the republics was announced on October 1 by the Ambassador of Somalia to Russia, Mohammed Handulle. He said the government fully supports the right of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to self-determination and Russia's role in resolving the crisis in the Caucasus. This statement was made against the backdrop of the hijacking of a Ukrainian ship by Somali pirates, on which there are Russians, 17 Ukrainian citizens and one Latvian citizen. Russia received permission to fight pirates in Somalia. It should be noted that the state of the Somali Republic itself has serious territorial and administrative problems. The government refers to the Provisional Federal Government, whose power is not recognized by all regions of the country, where civil war has been going on for 20 years.
