The diocese, created in the early 1960s through the labors of Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom), unites the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Great Britain and Ireland and is governed by its own Charter, which follows the provisions of the Local Council of 1917-18. and which has not yet been approved by the Russian Orthodox Church. Bishop Anthony, who preached Orthodoxy beyond national borders, led many Englishmen to the faith. After his death, many doubted that the diocese would be able to survive in its previous form. The Russian emigrants who have poured into England do not accept the traditions that have developed in the diocese, and the “old-timers” cannot find a common language with the priests sent from Moscow. And here is the sad result.
