The Metropolitan of Moldova will check a video with a priest from Transnistria casting out demons from a parishioner
Parishioners of the Orthodox Church of the Archangel Michael, located in the village of Khrustovaya in the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, filmed a video of the ritual of “exorcism” by a local priest.
The priest rode the man on horseback, declaring that he was going “to Jerusalem, and then to Mount Athos,” and then began to trample on his back and neck. The “sinner” cried, swore, made jokes and was interested in what the priest ate. The operator prayed, alternately addressing first one and then the second participant in the process. The ritual lasted more than eight minutes, after which numerous spectators suggested repeating it.
The rector of the Church of the Archangel Michael, Father Valery, is known for trying to treat alcoholism, drug addiction, witchcraft and cancer with prayer, holy water and oil unction, and also “actively practices exorcism.”
Moldovan media reported that the Metropolis of Moldova became interested in the video, condemned what was happening, since it was very different from the canonical rite, and promised to consider the incident in a church court.
