Journalistic solidarity has nothing to do with it. The people who signed the letter in defense of Tretyakov - Pavlovsky, Leontyev, Nikonov - they are not journalists. And not even political scientists. More like political strategists. One thing they have in common is their personal success under Putin. And Tretyakov is simply “ours” for this long-established pro-Putin crowd, and the letter should be considered as a call to “don’t touch our people.”
Despite the fact that Tretyakov obviously does not need protection. He is favored by the authorities and successful. Now he has been appointed head of the new faculty of television journalism at Moscow State University (despite the fact that, of course, he has nothing to do with television journalism, but still). There is no need to protect him.
And I agree with the 33 signatories that Tretyakov during the Nezavisimaya Gazeta period was a very talented and professional editor-in-chief. And the fact is that at one time “Independent” became an event. But now what Tretyakov is doing in Moscow News is not journalism, it is beyond the bounds, it is simply indecent.
