
Hearing on the merits in the criminal case regarding the ex-campaign of Yukos Leonid Nevzlin will begin on Wednesday in the Moscow City Court. As RIA Novosti reports, his lawyer Dmitry Kharitonov announced this. The process will be open, the case will be considered by one judge.
Even before the process, the lawyers of Nevznin had claims to his jurisdiction. In particular, they only had two weeks to familiarize themselves with 84 volumes of a criminal case. The petition in which the defense asked to increase this period to three months was rejected. In addition, he assures the defense of non -Zealin, initially the court was not going to introduce lawyers in the case materials, and believed that there would be enough lawyer appointed by the state. Kharitonov previously called what was happening "farce."
Nevznin is accused of organizing a number of murders and attempts on murders. He is charged with 11 criminal episodes. According to investigators, in 1998-2002, members of the organized group, at the direction of Nevzlin, committed the murders of the director of TF “TF” Fenix Valentina Korneeva, the head of the Nefteyugansk administration of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug Vladimir Petukhov (his guard Vyacheslav Kokoshkin was wounded), the driver of the manager Piasto Petroleum Khandelskazhezhaz ” Evgenia Rybina - Nikolai Fedotova.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, at the direction of Nevzlin, attempts were also made on the murders of the head of the public relations of the Moscow City Hall Olga Kostina, managing the affairs of Rosprom CJSC Viktor Kolesova, Rybin and his guards Alexei Ivanov and Evgeny Filippov.
In July 2004, the Prosecutor General’s Office in absentia charged Nevzlin with the organization of murders and attempts on murders. Then the Moscow Basmanny Court chose him a measure of restraint in the form of detention and put him on the international wanted list.
According to investigators, Nevzlin entered into a criminal conspiracy with an employee of the UKOS Security Office Alexei Pichugin with the aim of killing specific persons who represented a certain danger to the company and Pichutin themselves. According to the Prosecutor General, in all cases, Nevzlin gave direct instructions to Pichugin about the organization of murders and their performance. Pichugin was found guilty of murders and attempts on murders and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Since the summer of 2003, Nevzlin has been living in Israel, where he received citizenship. Russia achieves from Israel his extradition.
Nevzlin categorically rejects all the accusations against him.
In November 2007, one correspondence process over a political emigrant was already held in Moscow. Entrepreneur Boris Berezovsky was then sentenced to six years in prison in the theft of more than 214 million rubles of Aeroflot. He was found guilty of fraud. Berezovsky lives in the UK, whose authorities provided him with political asylum.
