The annual agreed action "Mars against hatred" was held in St. Petersburg on Sunday without incident, Interfax reports. The march participants gathered on Birzheva Square at 14:00 Moscow time. The column route passed in a circle through the university embankment, Mendeleevsky line and exchange passage.
Throughout the action, its participants chanted slogans against discrimination on sexual, national, religious signs and sexual orientation. The main slogan was the statement: "All people are different, all people are equal."
The march participants were accompanied by several police outfits.
“According to our estimates, several hundred people took part in the action,” Lyudmila Dubova, the organizer of the action from the movement “Democratic Petersburg”, told the agency.
At the end of the procession, those who wanted to go to Sakharov Square without posters and flags for laying flowers to the monument to academician Andrei Sakharov.
The “march against hatred” is organized by the Coalition “Democratic Petersburg” on the initiative of the human rights council of the city with the participation of other public organizations. In 2014, the parties to the RPR-Parnas and the "Party December 5" were included in the organizing committee of the march.
Earlier, the opposition submitted applications for the marching of St. Petersburg to conduct a procession on two routes: from the Shtarov Square metro station to Sakharov or to Troitskaya Square. Smolny did not agree on these options for holding the action, but later approved the alternative route of the procession.
The “march against hatred” in St. Petersburg has been held since 2004 in memory of the murdered human rights activist Nikolai Girenko, who acted as an expert in crimes on the basis of hatred. The public action is timed to the day of his birth.
