The Basmanny Court of Moscow extended the term of detention of the Deputy Minister of Finance Sergei Storchak arrested in mid -November on April 9. Thus, the request of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor General’s Office is satisfied, Interfax reports.
This decision can be appealed in the Moscow City Court for 10 days. However, according to the judge, it is impossible to change the measure of restraint to a very soft, since the grounds for which the preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen has not changed.
Storchak was arrested on suspicion of preparing theft from the budget for a total of $ 43 million. According to the investigation, Storchak wanted to transfer this money to the accounts of Sodexim, which demanded the return of the loan given to the Russian state in the mid-1990s. The Ministry of Finance consider this deal transparent, and Storchak himself does not admit his guilt.
Together with Storchak, the current head of the Interregional Investment Bank Vadim Volkov and the head of CJSC Sodexim Viktor Zakharov were also taken into custody. Igor Kruglyakov, a former president and member of the Board of Directors of the Interregional Investment Bank, was also arrested later.
