
The Japanese government approved the introduction of an additional package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the situation around Ukraine, Kyodo News reports . The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Sanctions will come into force from today.
The sanctions affected 40 individuals who, in the opinion of Tokyo, "are involved in the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea by Russia." Tokyo also freezes the assets of two companies - Chernomorskneftegaz and the oil depot located in Feodosia. In addition, Japan introduces a ban on the import of a number of Crimean goods.
