The question of whether the topic of nuclear security is a state secret or should be the subject of wide discussion has recently moved from the pages of newspapers to the courtrooms - environmentalists have increasingly become suspected of anti-state activities. And this despite the fact that now the problem has become more urgent than ever: the Kursk accident, the sad date of Chernobyl, the Balkan scandal, the discussion about the import of spent nuclear fuel into Russia.
On May 24 at 12 noon, Novaya Gazeta will host a press conference and a round table, held by the World Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (WMPNW) committee. Main topic: accidents at nuclear facilities, their causes, ways to prevent and the role of the public in this matter. Particular attention will be paid to the influence of the "human factor", which is usually underestimated for some reason.
The press conference will be attended by: Professor Dumas Lloyd Jeffrey (USA), author of the chronicle of nuclear disasters, Academician Lev Feoktistov, Kristina Lundius (Swedish branch of the WNWN), Sergey Grachev, co-chair of the WNWN, and other experts from Russia, the USA, Holland, Sweden, France, UK and Germany.
