A new satellite "Glonass-K" was brought to orbit

From the Cosmodrome Plesetsk on Saturday morning, the Soyuz launch vehicle with the Glonass-K satellite launched, the launch of which was postponed twice, Interfax reports with reference to the press service and information of the Ministry of Defense for the space forces. The start of the rocket was held as usual. The GLONASS-K Branch in conjunction with the Frigate acceleration block from the third stage of the launch vehicle also passed without complications. The satellite has already been brought to orbit and taken to control.

The launch of Glonass-K was supposed to take place on Thursday, but it was postponed twice-due to technical malfunction and due to a lack of time to conduct all the necessary tests.

A previous attempt to launch the GLONASS system was produced in December last year. Due to technical miscalculations, all three Glonass-M satellites could not go into a given orbit and fell into the Pacific Ocean.

The GLONASS-K model differs from the previous long service life and in that it uses an additional frequency, which increases the reliability of the transmitted data.
