Another surge of civic feelings, awakened by the "Ayatskov case", is observed in Saratov. In defiance of bartender Igor Karmishin, who is on a hunger strike to protest against the cancellation of the criminal case against the governor (see Novaya Gazeta, No. 37, May 27), local students started the Eat in Support of Ayatskov action.

The young people settled down opposite the starving man's tent, near the monument to Radishchev. Their action is much more modest, without slogans and stands - a country table, cheap sausage, tomatoes and radishes in plastic plates. The still life is crowned with a cardboard sign “Eating in support of Ayatskov”.

According to the authors of the idea, students of agricultural and technical universities Oleg and Sergey, they were called to the feat by the fame of the bartender Karmishin. I also wanted to be a star. They chipped in 80 rubles each, went to the market and began to amuse the people.

"Eaters" do not experience personal sympathy for the governor. In what it should be supported and from whom to protect, they do not know for sure. “Well, they just got used to it from childhood.”

The bartender watches the competition from a lounge chair. He believes that the "eaters" were hired by the regional government in order to divert public attention from the protest action. “I feel weak,” Karmishin says wearily. I have already lost 7 kilos. The doctor says: tie it up!

PS The prosecutor's check on materials related to the actions of Governor Dmitry Ayatskov continues. An investigative team from Nizhny Novgorod is working in Saratov. According to some information, the final conclusion on whether it is necessary to initiate a criminal case will be formulated by June 25. However, representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office themselves refuse to communicate with the press.
