As a party member, I will say. As a party worker with pre-reform experience.
I'll tell you about the party and the creative intelligentsia. About respect for people of art.
Here, I remember, a long time ago, in 1978, in the midst of stagnation, Valery Fokin staged the play "Monument". Based on the poignant and topical novel of the same name by the young Estonian Soviet writer Enn Vetemaa. About unhealthy competition in the team of Tallinn (then with one "n") sculptors. I remember how the main character Sven Voore (played by Konstantin Raikin) at the very beginning said with legitimate pride that he was a party member. And in the middle, when the conflict began and his creative positions were shaken, and no one supported him, he exclaimed directly from the stage to the hall:
Why did I join the party then?
Hall, comrades, directly gasped.
Many thought about it. And in fact, in fact! A person joined the party, paid dues, went to meetings. Groaning from effort, he carried on his shoulders the high title of a party member - and suddenly, at the most decisive moment of his creative biography, the party throws him. He does not give him warm Party care and strong Party support.
After all, Soviet people did not just join the party. Not Narodnaya Volya, thank God. And not even the RSDLP (b). Not without reason, comrades, the university badge in the USSR was called "float", and the party card - "sail". I hope everyone understands this modest but convincing metaphor. And if the Party organization showed no concern for the cadres, then the cadres had every moral right to exclaim:
Why did I join this party? I'll take it and leave this oh party!
This is what happened recently with the famous ballerina Anastasia Volochkova.
Ballerina Volochkova is a creative person, which means she is vulnerable and fragile, despite good general physical fitness. Therefore, it requires a careful attitude towards itself in a party way. Ballerina Volochkova is a notable person in art. A major figure in our ballet. In addition, like any creative person, he is a sincere and impulsive person.
When Comrade Volochkova joined the Party, she hoped that the Party would be her support in all her endeavors. And I am sure that it was not Comrade Volochkova who fantasized herself. It was the comrades from the party organization who opened bright prospects for her. Say, join - and walk broadly on the steps of a creative, as well as a socio-political career. And the party will help.
But the party organization rudely and callously threw comrade Volochkova. Comrade Volochkova decided to run for mayor of Sochi. Suppose the party made a different decision, nominated another person. But invite Comrade Volochkova, talk to her with all Party sincerity, and explain the situation. Support in a human way, create a favorable creative environment for her. No! The party bigwigs, who had broken away from ordinary activists, behaved in a bungling manner. Comrade Volochkova began to rudely shut off the oxygen and repair obstacles. The case ended with the fact that she was actually forbidden to speak to the working people of the Krasnodar Territory. No longer as a candidate for mayor, but simply as a major Russian ballerina.
When comrade Volochkova posted samples of her physical fitness on LiveJournal, individual bigots and self-proclaimed censors from the party lobby unleashed moral persecution against her. No one would ask her permission to release these highly artistic photographs in the form of a party calendar, as an example for female youth!
In general, there was a big flaw. And I urge comrades to admit their mistakes. To speak honestly and openly with comrade Volochkova, remove all questions and perplexities and offer her the post of mayor of some city. Well, not as responsible as Sochi. More modest.
I think she will cope with St. Petersburg. Moreover, there is a good opera and ballet theater there.
