Evgeny Yevtushenko died

In the USA, at the 85th year of his life, Evgeny Yevtushenko died, TASS reports with reference to a friend of the poet Mikhail Morgulis. According to the last will of the poet, he will be buried in Peredelkino near Moscow.

Yevtushenko is a cult figure of the era of thaw and the most popular Soviet poet.

Yevtushenko was born on July 18, 1932 at Winter Station in the Irkutsk Region. In 1952, his first collection of poems "Scouts of the Coming" was published. In the same year, Yevtushenko was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR, becoming its youngest member.

In the 1960s, Yevtushenko’s performances at poetry evenings at the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow invariably gathered crowds of fans.

In 1961, the Babi Yar poem dedicated to the mass executions of Jews during the Great Patriotic War was published in the Literary Newspaper, for which the poet was accused of political immaturity and the absence of a sense of internationalism. "Babi Yar" was translated into 72 languages ​​of the world, lines from it were carved in front of the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.

In February 1963, Evgeny Yevtushenko, the “autobiography” of Evgeny Yevtushenko, was published in the French weekly. This caused the discontent of the Soviet authorities, who accused the poet of acting without the permission of the ideological department of the CPSU Central Committee.

Yevtushenko advocated Andrei Sinyavsky, Julia Daniel, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Joseph Brodsky. In his poems, he protested against the introduction of Soviet troops into Hungary, Czechoslovakia, wars in Afghanistan (the poems "Tanks are walking along Prague", "Afghan Ant").

In 1988, Yevtushenko joined the Human Rights Society "Memorial". A year later, he was elected the co -chair of the April writers' Association. In 1989-1991 he was a People's Deputy of the USSR.

In 1991, Yevtushenko moved to the United States with his family. I read a course of Russian poetry at American universities.

Yevtushenko is known not only as a poet, but also as a prose writer, director, screenwriter, publicist and actor. Yevtushenko’s works have been translated into more than 70 languages ​​of the world, more than 130 books have been published.

Yevtushenko is an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, the American Academy of Arts, the Academy of Fine Arts in Malaga, a full member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, Professor Honoris Causa University of a new school in New York and Royal College in Queens, Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, at Santo-Doming University.
