Ashraf Gani's government survives the last days

On the same day, Gardez, the capital of Pactia surrendered without a fight. Government Troops are demoralized.

The US Embassy has begun to destroy documents and preparation for partial evacuation. Many Embassies of NATO coalition countries have announced evacuation (the first to be Denmark and Norway) and guaranteed political asylum to the hired Afghan personnel. However, we are talking about hundreds of people, while real danger threatens the lives of tens of thousands.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of all civilized countries has issued statements: citizens are categorically not recommended to stay in Afghanistan, their transport expenses will be covered according to special programs. In Kabul there are an additional 3,000 American military personnel who ensure the safety of embassies and Western specialists during the evacuation.

The Minister of Defense of Great Britain and the former commander of the coalition troops have already allowed the return of NATO to Afghanistan.

In this situation, everyone was waiting for at least some reaction of the central government. President Ashraf Ghani was stubbornly silent. Sources of almost all the media reported the US pressure on the president in order to force him to resign, about the evacuation of the family. Finally, on the morning of August 14, Gani’s very short statement (as it turned out in advance) was distributed throughout the channels: there will be no resignation, the country is on the verge of a huge threat, the main priority of the government and the people is total mobilization.

In the east, they respect power. This is the psychology of a local man: he is unimportant by the political orientation of the hero, but he will also tell the children how he drove the superior forces of the omnipotent colonial empire along the Mediterranean coast. When the number of forces of the coalition under Obama exceeded the number of the 40th Army of the USSR, the Taliban could not dream of the sole administration of the country. This was the most profitable moment for intensive negotiations from the perspective of the Force, the main eastern argument, in order to ensure a profitable political configuration after the withdrawal of the troops (and the decision on it was already adopted at that moment).

These chances were missed, although they were created by their lives, including 2500 dead young Americans. Now, during a military catastrophe, why are the Taliban generally any negotiations?

Therefore, the statement of President Ashraf Gani is absolutely inadequate to the position in the country, standing on the threshold of a political and humanitarian catastrophe. This was immediately written by local commentators, military and police, as well as the New York Times observer. Nevertheless, the protein of the West clings to power to the last. And this is also a feature of the mentality of local politicians. Whether the Taliban agrees to share power with his successor in case of resignation is unknown - it all depends on the figure on which the US bet and its allies will make.
