On August 4 of last year, Ales Belyatsky, the chairman of the human rights center Vasna and the vice-president of the International Federation of Human Rights, was arrested in Belarus. In November, Belyutsky was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison on charges of non -payment of taxes from grants.

On the anniversary of the arrest of Belyatsky, human rights activists of different countries spend the day of solidarity with the Civil Society of Belarus . The shares will be held in Russia, Germany, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic and other countries.

"Politicians of our countries now scold the authorities of Belarus, then sit down at the negotiating table; they introduce sanctions, but continue economic relations; they threaten with isolation, but they maintain contacts. We - civil activists, human rights defenders and simply indifferent people - we consider it important to express our support to the civil society of Belarusian, who continue to promote and protect the standards of human rights and the rule Rights, to offer new ideas and initiatives, to help people, to meet, to communicate, write and create.

“Belarus is located in the very center of Europe, and at the same time it remains the only one among the Continent states where the death penalty is applied and the European Human Rights Convention is not in force,” the human rights activists say. “At the same time, the Civil Society of Belarus is one of the most powerful in the post -Soviet space. Belarusians from Belarus won cases in the Committee on Human Rights and other bodies of the UN. Directors, artists, writers and musicians continue to embody creative ideas in life.

In Moscow, on Saturday, the Marathon of Solidarity with the Civil Society of Belarus - Soliday is taking place. The program includes film screenings, photo exhibition and round table "Parallels: what can Russia teach Russia Belarus?" The events will also be held in St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Tomsk and Voronezh.
