The governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko knows who will be the next president. In an interview with Vedomosti, she refused to name her name, but said that it would be a man.
“It seems to me that I know. I’m sure of this,” said the governor. “I have written the last name for a long time and put this envelope in a safe with wax. The elections will be held - we will open it.”
Matvienko is running for the State Duma from United Russia, it is the second number in the regional list of St. Petersburg. She said she was not going to work in the State Duma. “I do not hide my position and are not going to change the place of the governor for any other,” said Matvienko. “I’m not going to join the party and remain a non -partisan governor, as most Petersburgers who are non -partisan people always said.”
The governor denied the information that she was invited to enter the government of Viktor Zubkov. “No, they didn’t invite,” she said. “And they won’t be invited. We have a large country, a lot of talented wonderful personnel, and I think that the position of governor of St. Petersburg is no less important than the position of any member of the government.”
