
In St. Petersburg, a memorial plaque was dismantled to the head of the White movement to Admiral Alexander Kolchak. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the administration of the Petrograd district of the city.
"Based on the court’s decision, an order of the Culture Committee was issued, according to which the Museum of City Sculpture was charged with the dismantling of a memorial plaque. Today the work was carried out, the board was dismantled," the district administration said.
On January 24, the judge of the Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg Tatyana Matusyak satisfied the lawsuit of the group of citizens to recognize the installation of the board illegal and ordered the government of St. Petersburg to dismantle it. The court also forbade the perpetuating the memory of Kolchak by installing new tablets in the future. On April 25, the city court confirmed this decision , rejecting the appeal of the initiators of the installation of a memorable sign - the organization "White case".
The board with the inscription "In this house from 1906 to 1912 there was an outstanding Russian officer, scientist and researcher Alexander Vasilievich Kolchak" was installed on November 12, 2016 in St. Petersburg on house 3 on Bolshaya Zelenin Street. The initiator of its installation was the memorial, educational and historical and cultural center "White business". The governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko approved the installation of the board.
Activists of the Russian socialist movement opposed the installation of a commemorative board to Kolchak. “It is not installed in honor of the White Guard, but the honor of the researcher, but this is cunning,” said the activist of the RSD Ivan Ovsyannikov. In the RSD, Kolchak is called the "dictator of Siberia" and the "war criminal", whose perpetuation of the memory "can lead to wide public discontent."
On November 14, several residents of the city at once filed claims on the legality of installing the admiral board. On the same day, the board was doused with black paint.
The issue of Kolchak’s rehabilitation has not yet been resolved. In 2002, a memorial plaque dedicated to Kolchak, a graduate of the corps, was opened in St. Petersburg in the sea building of Peter the Great.
On June 16, in St. Petersburg, on the site of the former barracks of the Cavalier Guard regiment, the Board of the Finnish Marshal Karl Gustav Mannerheim was installed. He served in the regiment from 1891 to 1897 after graduating from the Nikolaev military school. At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky and the ex-head of the presidential administration Sergey Ivanov were attended by the board. On October 13, in the presence of police officers, workers dismantled the board . It was placed as an exhibit in the sovereign chamber of the State Museum-Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo".
