Composer Michelle Legrand died

In France at the age of 86, composer Michelle Legrand died, Le Monde reports with reference to his representative.

Legrand wrote more than 200 songs to film and television films. The most famous of them are the Sherbourg Umbrellas (1964) and the Thomas Kruna scam (1968). He was nominated 13 times on the Oscar and won three times, the first time - in 1969 for the song The Windmills of Your Mind (the windmills of your consciousness - English ) to Tomas Kruna. The composer also received five Grammy awards and one Golden Globe.

Legrand was born on February 24, 1932. He received the first musical experience from his father, composer and conductor Reimon Legrand, and his mother - pianists Marcel Ter -Mikaelyan. Legrand studied with Nadia Bulanzhe at the Paris Conservatory and, after its end, went on a tour of the United States in 1952, since 1953 he began to write music for films. Since the late 1960s, Legrand began working in British cinema, then in Hollywood.

Legrand has four children. Two of his sons are engaged in music. Composer's sister Christian voiced the main female roles in the film "Sherbourg Umbrellas". In September 2014, Legrand married in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris with actress Masha Meril, the daughter of the Russian prince-emigrant Vladimir Gagarin.
