Vladimir Putin transferred the Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko to the post of Deputy Prime Minister. The corresponding decree is published on the Kremlin website. By another decree, Putin was appointed head of the Ministry of Sports Pavel Kolobkov, Deputy Mutko in the Ministry.
A few hours earlier, Putin approved the candidates of Mutko and Kolobkov for new posts. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev introduced them to the head of state.
In the government, Mutko will oversee sports, tourism and youth policy.
The possible appointment of Mutko by the Deputy Prime Minister was reported on October 11 . At the same time, it was argued that the Ministry of Sports itself was supposed to be abolished, just as Rosturism and Rosmolodezh, and to transfer the functions of these three departments to the newly created agency, which will be in direct subordination of the government. The possible head of the new agency was called the current vice-speaker of the State Duma and the outgoing president of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov.
The next day, however, Mutko himself said that the Ministry of Sports would not be abolished, but reformed and received additional powers.
Meanwhile, Putin on October 11 made the idea to consolidate the curator of sports, youth policy and tourism for one deputy prime minister. While it is divided between two: Arkady Dvorkovich is responsible for the sport, and Olga Golodets is for the other two spheres.
