In Moscow, at the intersection of Leningradsky Prospekt and Begovaya Street, a strong fire broke out in underground collectors with electric and telephone cables.
In the management of the state fire service, Interfax was informed that the signal about the fire was received at about 21.40. Several dozen fire crews, as well as rescuers and a detachment of diggers, immediately arrived at the scene.
At present, thick black smoke is pouring out of six wells, ITAR-TASS reports. They carry a lot of vital cables. Bright flashes are visible from the wells. However, firefighters cannot yet proceed to put out the fire, as they are currently deciding the best way to put out the fire.
The diggers who examined the collectors reported that the burning was taking place over a large area 11 meters underground. The collectors are heavily smoky, the source of ignition is not clear.
Diggers believe that in the area of house # 29 along Leningradsky Prospekt, soil failures are possible. The area is currently cordoned off by the police.
A source at the UGPS told Interfax that severe power outages and telephone communications could not be ruled out in the north of the capital in the near future. Several houses have already been de-energized.
